The Uses of Tumblr

Tumblr is a blogging website that is primarily for blogging/reblogging photos. I discovered it a couple of years ago and was intrigued by its unique concept. People of all ages and from all over the world share photos that they have taken themselves or have found somewhere else on the internet. The photos can then be reblogged by others (who 'follow' the original poster) onto their own blog pages. Most photos have their source linked with them. Although the majority of posts are photos, users can express themselves through other multimedia like text and videos.

I chose to join Tumblr because it allows me to create a picture-blog that represents my interests and style. I get to post pictures that I find beautiful or relevant to my life. I find it to be very inspiring, as I follow several home decor blogs that have similar tastes as me and feel that I'm growing as an interior decorating student by being exposed to new ideas.

An aspect about Tumblr that I think is appealing and user-friendly is their 'Explore Tumblr' option. It  displays all of the topics that are offered throughout the website, such as Fashion, Science, Art, Food, Sports, etc. Once a topic is selected, you are then led to posts that have been tagged under the topic and you can browse them, reblog/favorite a post, or go to a user's blog who posted a certain photo or other multimedia. Overall, Tumblr is a fun blogging experience, but can also be very educational and informative depending on what you look for on the website.

  1. I'm so glad you chose to write about Tumblr as I had only the vaguest idea about what it is! I did not know it was a blog dedicated to pictures and profiles on certain topics. In a way similar to Twitter, I like how it allows you to personalize who you follow and which pictures you choose to look at. I can see how it would definitely provide inspiration for aspiring artists or decorators! I love being able to see things people create and have the ideas in their heads be made into something tangible that others can enjoy/learn from. Perhaps I will join Tumblr and browse around to see what people in this world find interesting and beautiful! My social media horizons are expanding slowly but surely....

  2. I also wrote about Tumblr and how amazing it is. I love being able to blog about anything and expressing my artistic side. Some of the blogs out there are actually really amazing and entertaining. It's definitely a fuse of Twitter, Blogger, and Facebook. In which you can thoroughly express yourself as an individual.
